What: The Terrible, an original play about writing and regret
When: Saturday, March 13th from 3 - 5:30 pm
Where: Gorilla Tango Theatre, 1919 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60647
Who: Eight roles—two women and six men. The play is set today and in the past, so some actors will be playing from their twenties to their fifties. Also, two male roles require a bit of stunt work.
How: Contact wcpayton@gmail.com to set up an appointment to perform a brief monologue (just a minute or two). Rehearsals will run a few evenings each week during April and May; the play is scheduled for the first weekend in June.
Why: To explore the human condition, and for 5 percent of the profits after GT fees, which probably won't amount to bus fare.
Show Description: If Hamlet and King Lear had a not-too-bright sibling, it would surely be called THE TERRIBLE, an original play about thanatology, misanthropy, and single-malt scotch. A middle-aged writer visits the tavern he frequented in his youth and contemplates the successes and failures of his salad days. He is transported to moments of mirth and regret, and weighs them all as he considers his final journey.
