| Description: |
Thirty monologues for 6 to 15 actors, teens to retirees. A vendor’s tent outside a strip mall, late November (Christmas tie-in). A sign invites people to come inside the tent, drop a nickel in the basket and then simply “talk about God,” no holds barred. Onstage are a simple card table and a chair that holds an unseen listener. In speeches wide-ranging and impassioned, the characters strive to express their personal experiences of God or the absence of God. Among them, an atheist counselor at the Indiana State Prison, a Muslim Notre Dame student defying his parents’ faith, a woman who found trust in a personal goddess, a WWII vet who wouldn’t risk his own life to save his buddy, and a gung-ho high-school graduate just back from a semester at Bible camp. All ordinary folks, but unexpectedly poignant and profound. (Actors are encouraged to tell their own real stories.) |
