Nietzsche, Rilke Freud all fell under her spell and emerged trailing holy fire. She was a groundbreaking thinker, but her most superb work was her life. She performed without a net and never slipped, though bodies fell all around her. She is past the midpoint of her years, but the passion is undiminished. A recently dumped lover has murdered himself, the details grim. She comes from the coroner’s inquest to the stage. “My way has grown dark,” she says. “I come seeking light.” With the audience as her witness, she peels back the layers of love and loss to the meaning at their core. She conjures them back to life, her lost God, her lost loves, the lost companions of her soul. She blows on the dying embers. Once more they glow.
